BEST BUTTY VAN within the North East ?
« on: October 04, 2008, 04:35:27 PM »
Hi all,

Every time your going somewhere on the roads, you always see those Butty Vans in lay bys and parking verge areas

Some are well known ( Moes Muncher ) and some are not...

Surely there must be a favourite road side butty van  thats does the best bacon sandwich and cup of tea at a good price ?

Lets name your favourite  and maybe  shame your experiences ?

I remember when I was learning to drive buses stopping at a van in Washington close to the George Washington Hotel. Excellent food and cheap as well.

There used to be a cracking one on the Aycliffe Industrial Estate, often parked on or near the old ETN Axles site.  They did great food and were reasonable priced.  They used to do leaflet drops around the estate, cool marketing plan IMHO, to let you know where they would be on a particular day.  You could even phone in orders and then go and collect.  Can't remember the name of it though.

Is Moes still there?    she was rather poorly last time I heard.  She has been there for over 20 years. Her hubby had the fruit and flower shop next to the Bush in Chilton

I believe that their daughter is in the van most days. I'm not sure about Moes health but I'll ask next time I'm passing

Pardon my utter ignorance on butty vans but are they stationary like our hotdog vans or do they move around like ice cream sellers playing silly tunes as they go ?

Yes similar to hotdag vans - They're normally parked along the roadside where they get their trade from passing motorists, or on a trading estate and they pick up business from the companies who don't have their own catering facilities.

Most park up early on a morning and are then towed away later in the afternoon. Whereas the one above at Tallents is huge and semi permanent.
