Now 17 consecutive days with snow cover at 0900hrs in Ferryhill. Starting to get sick of it now.

The novelty soon wears off doesn't it. Just think if you had at least another couple of months to go.

I love it. I got up this morning, saw it had been snowing and got really excited.

Lovely pictures Mr Cat and LK.

I'm loving the snow. Love walking in it and driving through it although only sticking to roads which have been cleared. Haven't managed to build a snowman yet as it seems to be 'the wrong snow'. Seems we've got it for at least another 2 weeks.

Photo taken on the Slaley to Hexham road (B6305) on 7th January 2010 (courtesy of "tynevalleywinter" on netweather.tv) showing the depth of the snow up there.

Some more from around Ferryhill, showing the depth of the snow. The first one taken in my yard shows the snow about 15" deep on the roof (the rain gauge is 12" tall). The other two are taken in Dean Bank, on the Kirk Merrington road, where the snow is another 4" deeper.

Early warnings of severe or extreme weather

These are issued when the Met Office has 60% or greater confidence that severe weather is expected in the next few days.

North East England:

    Warning    Valid from    Valid to
   Heavy Snow    1800 Sun 10    1200 Mon 11

Risk of disruption

60%   Darlington
60%   Durham
60%   Hartlepool
60%   Middlesbrough
60%   Northumberland
60%   Redcar + Cleveland
60%   Stockton-on-Tees
60%   Tyne + Wear

There is a high risk of severe weather affecting parts of northern England, the Midlands and eastern Wales. Outbreaks of snow developing on Sunday will become heavier and more persistent during late afternoon or evening and persistent through the night and into Monday morning. 5 to 15cm of fresh level snow is expected widely with 20-30cm locally. Drifting in the very strong winds will cause even greater accumulations in places. Disruption to transport networks and icing on power lines is possible.

It is expected that this Early Warning will be superseded by Flash messages.

Issued at: 1211 Sat 9 Jan
