snow - Chilton to Merrington

I've just taken my daughter to work at the Ship in Middlestone.( then brought her straight back as her shift has been cancelled)
There are a couple of cars having difficulty going up the bank from Chilton to Merrington - at present one was stopped and another was being pushed. All the rest of the cars were joining the queue
The snow is already starting to drift over the top of the hedges, then dropping onto the road making the travel even more difficult and unless they get the cars moving the plough won't get up the road to help!
The plough went along the North of Chilton then turned around at the Trading estate roundabout at the north side of Chilton heading back towards Ferryhill Station, so if you're heading out this evening IMHO the road will close shortly between Chilton and Merrington unless they start to plough it or salt it soon.

Wonder how it worked out? That road, with the high hedges, is a bit like the ones in SW England - prone to fill with drifted snow. If the wind had been stronger i'm sure it would have closed earlier. You could have got stuck yourself!

I'm going out soon to have a look and see how deep it got before the snow stopped
and perhaps take some pics before it melts.

We spent around 2 hours on Saturday night, along with over a dozen others, pushing vehicles up Darlington Road, Ferryhill.
It was very eventful, especially when an Arriva double decker tried to get up while an ambulance was parked outside Gladstones attending someone that had fallen on the ice. The bus slid sideways into the side of the ambulance with no way to getback off, took the ambulance to edge forward scraping the side of both to get them free.
The bus then went on to nearly hitting a wall near the crossing before hitting the fron wing and bumper of a parked Volvo.
(There was, apparantly, around 20 or so bumps involving buses that night)
The only gritter sighted during the night was on that had gone into the village from another direction and tried to brake, ending about three foot from the front window of the newsagents in the village.
Looks like my bike will be getting an extended rest for a while until the ice goes - not too keen on having to pick that beast up if it goes for a slide.
