Hiya, Me and my Husband will be moving to County Durham in July as we are posted there because my Husband is in the British Army he will be working in the Recruiting office in the centre of Durham city.

I was just wondering if anyone would be able to help, We have been asked to put down some area's where we would like to live and we don't have a clue because we don't know the area.

So we just need a few nice area's to live that's pretty close to the city centre.

Thanks!!

Newton Hall is a nice place, full of Police Officers and Warden's, not much riff-raff and 5 minutes drive from Durham City.

Belmont/Carrville, great areas, good road links, nice people, good local shops, I grew up here and I'd never move away

Depends if you are renting or buying.  Durham City is full of rented accomodation aimed at the students.  Gilesgate is a pleasant area of the City within walking distance of the Army Recruiting Office (parking is expensive in the city).  Living outside the City, The Park & Ride is popular and secure (£1.70 per day for unlimited use)

Just posted elsewhere - most areas of the North East are now viewable on Google Street View. You can get an idea of how an area looks if you've got a post code. Just punch it in and take a look.

Here's Durham Market Place.
