Is anyone aware of the existence of this magnificent bridge? It is located upriver from Finchale Priory, and carried a waggonway which connected the Leamside line with the LNER main line. http://www.pbase.com/scirburn/image/37246439I travelled once from Fencehouses to Durham by train, and would have crossed it, but I don't remember it. I "discovered" it when birdwatching at Brasside Ponds before they built Frankland Prison, and had forgotten all about it until I found this site. I think many people will be amazed when they see it. It is barred at either end, so can't be crossed on foot.

When I first saw the picture I thought it was the viaduct near the Low Barns nature centre, the concurrence of rail, road and river: http://www.sunderland.ac.uk/~ds0jgr/wear/page30.htm
