Bishop Auckland shopping centre revamp ? more money wasted ?

I read in  the Echo today that the owners of the Newgate centre want to revamp it and spend millions to update and regenerate the town centre

Hopefully to encourage new large retailers into the town ?

Is this too much ...  too late ?

If the GREEDY councils allowed FREE parking  I am sure loads of people would still shop there ?
Seems like the decline started when they decided to charge 20p an hour in the eary 90's  and those rogue wheel clampers !!

 the Metrocentre was still 'new'  offered more shops for free parking and better deals  as online shopping didnt really exist
it was newspaper advert wars     

How long is the local council going to finish off the market place ?   seems one day its done the next week its ripped up and tarmac laid ?

I hope they make the old OK depot more FREE parking maybe even if they designated it for shop workers only ??  just a thought

NO matter how much money you chuck into Bishop Auckland   I think its going to be wasted ?

Old Focus store is ideal for a big retailer to move in to   

 MARKS AND SPENCER  ?   

Currys /  PC WORLD ?     

I cannot understand how a small complex such as Dalton Park can attract so many people ...   when the same shops could easily be in Bishop to attract people in ?





Never been in Bishop for a while...   as nothing attracts me to it

just think of the extra pound shops and charity shops they will be able to fit in when they extend and upgrade it

I read they are going to start to demolish Bishop Auckland shopping centre

Starting with  Mothercare

Lets hope they continue

Maybe then they can have a town centre drive through cinema  as that's all Bishop Auckland has ever wanted

They never used the cinema they had  so that went

Whats going to happen to the old OK bus garage ?  now then
More park and pay bays ?

It does sadden me that a busy town has become a victim of council charging to park there to shop in the early 90's   twenty years on  all the money chucked into  market place revamp again

Bishop Auckland is not alone with business going bankrupt / administration  all our town centres are going to feel like ghost towns

Money for oil and bombs  have a lot to answer for       UK debt

No disposable income  how are businesses going to operate ?

it is and arnt they taking there time about it. i can totally understand why marks and sparks want to move to a out of town store the argument that it will kill of the town center is rubbish just look round at the cheap shops and charity shops the town center died years ago marks and sparks does not bring people into bishop auckland its not big enough they go to the one at darlington and metro center and use bishop to bring back the stuff that doesnt fit
